Catching up with Andrea Graff
Andrea Graff
With an eye for colour and an ability to inject equal doses of energy and beauty into her interiors, decorator extraordinaire Andrea Graff gives a unique spin to all her projects. We got chatting to her to find out what she's been up to in the last while and what she hopes 2019 will bring.
Q
We last spoke to you in 2016. What has been your most significant design event in the interim?
A
I’ve done so much since then, it’s hard to say! The beautiful renovation in Fresnaye was a memorable one, especially for its Mid Century look. I did another apartment in Tel Aviv and recently in Johannesburg.
Q
What interior trends are you loving right now?
A
I’m really in love with Mid Century classic looks. It's understated industrial elements coupled with a warm, organic textures. I love it!
Q
Where do you find inspiration for the work you do?
A
I love browsing through magazines both locally and abroad. I would say travel is a big inspiration, and of course, Instagram!
Q
What's the most impactful thing we could do to our homes without breaking the bank?
A
Never underestimate the power of a thorough declutter and a fresh coat of paint.
Q
We love your interiors for their daring eclecticism. What's the secret to finding the balance between enough and too much?
A
It’s all about proportion and scale. And don’t forget the precise editing. It’s the same as dressing. You need to know what to take away as much as what to put in.
Q
What are your favourite Block & Chisel pieces right now?
A
The Thomas and Baxton Chairs - they’re both very Mid Century. Love! Love!
Q
What are you most looking forward to design-wise in 2019?
A
I can’t wait to exhibit at Design Joburg for the first time in May 2019. We’ll be showing our own range of furniture plus all our latest jobs.
